a watched pot might not boil, but a simmering pot can still burn junk onto the bottom.
today was the last day of classes for the first semester. exams start tomorrow. thankfully, my exams are monday and tuesday, so i have time to get them ready. i've been so busy trying to finish covering material and make review work that i haven't really got the exams themselves finished yet.
i can't help but feel a sense of failure when i look at the work we actually did and compare it to the curriculum we were supposed to cover. however, i really ought not to take the full responsibility, because it would have been damn near impossible to cover it all if all the students were present and punctual and awake, we missed no periods for any special events (as opposed to the 6 or so we miss each week), and the students had the appropriate skills and background to actually do the math. as it is, i chose an outcome and went back and built the foundation under it. how is it possible for integers to be so hard?
i think i am exhausted. i'm cranky as all hell, even with the new puppies and a healthy fiona (for which i am very thankful). politics, exams, and the regular chipping a teacher takes are wearing on me. that and still no sun.
oh. :) I did an excellent sketch today. I'm really proud of it. I've cut back on my tv watching (yay me!) and now I'm working on filling that time with soemthing more productive than, well, this.

oh beck, i'm sorry you're cranky. good for you for spending time drawing and for cutting back on TV. it can be quite addictive. AND a huge time sucker, which can sometimes a good thing when you're trying to kill-time.
the sun will come out tomorrow, at least i hope it does. if not, it will in a couple weeks, and that's SOME day's tomorrow, right?
hey now... don't you go thinking even a little second about
'failing' when you're teaching up there. that's a nonsense thought and you know it. so grab it wrap it in a ball of snot and kick the heckle and jeckle out of it until it's outa the ball park.
and that sun... well... you're not gonna see that puppy for a while... so create a new sun... and a sun god... maybe me.
becks ... you go up north to do this crazyass, valiant, giving thing ... there's no way you're a failure! i brag about your selflessness all the time down here in ontario (where it's incredibly cold at the moment. the weather shouldn't *hurt!). now i know that you've constructed your time up north as a selfish thing in the past (i.e. running away, etc.), but it's just not true!
don't know if it helps with the crankiness, but you're missed here. seriously. i miss you!
big hugs to make the crankiness go away
and a toast of scotch on robbie burns day!
aw thanks you guys!! you gals are great :)
i woke up this morning feeling a bit better, and while i'm still tired, it made me feel good to read your encouragements.
MeL, especially, thanks for that illuminating visual image... mmm kicking snot-wrapped negative thoughts... hahah
Is it really Robbie Burns Day? damn it... and no scotch.
i think i will wait patiently and pine for the sun. i'll go stare at a lightbulb in the meantime, until that sneaky sun comes back from behind the mountains.
i miss you!!
yeah, it really is RB day. just be thankful that there's no haggis up north either!
i'll tipple a little extra for you at dinner. hell. we'll toast you at dinner after we toast Rabbie! maybe i'll even attempt it in a brogue: Rrrrrrahbie, Rrrrrrrahbeckha ... whaddya think?
Woo, go pep-talk brigade! Awesome! It's like you're putting bacon grease on life for the big B. :)
mmmm.... bacon grease...
