if the sun won't come to me, i must go to the sun

sweet agony.

i skied across the fjord today with some of the other teachers. i saw the sun! it was fantastic. and i don't think i will ever move again. when i crossed the line from shadow into sunlight, i could immediately feel the temperature difference.

cross-country skiing should be respected as the most hardcore sport ever - it kicks weight-lifting's ass. it is hard! in a typical x-country ski season, i would begin activity slowly - maybe a half-hour or hour-long ski the first few times out. then the time could be increased.

proof that I was there - that's Kim's back behind me.

on the way back across, the wind really picked up, and we found ourselves standing in a river of blowing snow.
Here's the view downstream.

we left shortly after 11am and returned around 1:30. oh sweet agony of blisters and muscle pain.

fiona is incredible. she shot out 6 puppies less than a week ago, and she's already running up and down stairs, skinny as ever, and doing laps around nalu. don't let her make you feel bad - she thinks she's invincible.

Awesome awesome! So cool. I am jealous. X-country is tiring, but such a gooood tired!
Are your days getting noticeably longer there yet?

yup yup! today the sun came up at 8h37, went down at 2h35. so it's coming along.

and the sun does hit our side of the fjord a little tiny bit out across the river now. it will be another month at least before it hits my house, but only a week or so until i can get sunshine outside the school.

i am so excited to have it back - don't underestimate an eyefull of sunshine.

When you get back to Ontario, promise me that you and I will go cross country skiing. I really want to learn.

Sounds like a grand way to spend the day up north!

for sure melissa! anytime there is enough snow in the greater kingston area.

and laney bear is an excellent skier as well! so if you don't feel like waiting for next winter, you might be able to twist her arm to go.
