rantlets

tonight's entrée: beckless, served steamed on a bed of pissed off.

check it out.

also this. this is most important.

both things just make me angry. and afraid. let's be real.

the tories think that just because it is no longer technically legally endorsed to treat women differently than men, it doesn't happen any longer. apparently, the status of women is something they think unworthy of taxpayer's money. well, I'm a tax payer. i'd rather spend my money there than on, say, a load of propaganda or our share of a missile defense sheild. but then... maybe they are right not to listen to me, since the tax from my salary makes up a smaller share of the government's income than, say, a man's might.

i have a question: anarchy means, basically, biggest gun wins, right? and conservatism (I think) means you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get...? so why are socialists sometimes equated with anarchists? and where are the people whose feet are on the ground, who look out of eyes that aren't clouded with rage or dollar signs, whose backs are down, feathers smooth, guns safetied and holstered. where are the calm-thinking, rational people who want to pass the world on to the next generation with fewer scars than it has currently?

and the other article... well, that's just what i saw in my last village. it was heartbreaking. now that i am back in touch with reality, and out of my shock, i know that it is not supposed to be that way. social work is always such a low priority... after hospitals, police and education. but social work is the thread that (supposedly) ties those three things together. it makes me think of the time when i was teaching in the prison: Care First. the idea there was that the primary goal of the "school" was to get kids thinking, goal-setting, managing their anger or depression or drug cravings.. teaching them how to live first, and curriculum second. this is the stuff i saw or heard about every day when i was there. the school was shaking with the repercussions of abuse and neglect. i know, too, that my town's social worker (who was shared between our community and another) left a few months after i did, and was only replaced this week! that's more than a year with no social worker!

i'm glad to be back at school, but i am tired.

i am so glad that you are plolitcally minded. i try and then feel defeated when I can 't do anything.

i did vote for the municipal election this fall. i felt that i made an informed choice, but my guy did not win.

i enjoy your rants....
you rant away.

thanks melissa!

it's hard to know the difference between being political and bitching. i heard somewhere that bitching is ineffective, and that's what makes it different from real argument. i think that might be sexist.

i think i read it at BitchPhD, a fantastic blog. you should snop around there if you have a minute.
