quadricep

so. i thought i was tired yesterday. i was wrong. today i am tired. i swear, my quads have not been this sore before. ever. i don't trust my legs to carry me safely down stairs - they feel like they could give out at any time. i plan to spend the largest part of this evening in a hot bath. :p seriously, this reminds me of BEWIC sports days.. go crazy all day, go home and collapse, get up early and do it again.

yesterday we learned the indian step and the side step, and a couple of variations, as well as the corkscrew (which is cool - looks like you're falling down). today we learned a couple more variations, the six-step (that thing that looks like they're dancing in a circle, right before they spin), freezes, juggling steps and this thing called "si-si" or "C-C". i have no idea how to spell it. anyway, most of what we did today involved crouching on the balls of our feet for several minutes at a time, kicking our feet out like in Russian dancing, and doing moves in slow-motion. it hurts. i felt the burn by 9:30 this morning. they also did some lighter stuff, like the wave (through your body, not like in a stadium) and the kids had a mini seminar on the history of hip hop. all in all, it's pretty cool stuff. i'm having a blast. right at the end of today, they tied the hip hop and beatboxing in with throat-singing. someone with some musical knowledge and a little willpower could do a lot with that.

i'm seeing confidence in the kids like i've never seen before - kids who won't answer a question in class are going into the cypher (the circle) and dancing ALL ALONE. it's incredible. also, kids who have never made it to school in the morning arrived on time at 8:30, ready to go.

the group does get smaller all the time - kids drop out because of this or that reason. but we still have about 60, and they seem pretty hardcore.

i'm going for my bath now.

yeah mel! totally come visit! but no, they don't say that here. the level of english is pretty good, and anyway, the kids don't visit at our houses much.

and you might be right that I'll forget... they aren't hard moves, but i guess i could still forget. i don't have any videotape of it yet, but they're all filming all the time, so there's stuff out there.
