luck has everything to do with it.
i went out to feed puppies and found this instead. i think the word you are looking for is "wuh-HUH??!" fiona and i left the puppies to recreate lord of the flies for a few minutes and took off up the hill behind my house to grab a few pics. of course, the first three were the best, because then i started ferkin' around with exposures and so ruined a bunch of really good shots. i never learn. what is astonishing is that while i ran inside to grab my camera, the best of the lights extinguished themselves. somehow i forgot the whistling trick.
inuit legend says that if you whistle at night, the lights will come to you. the way they tell it, it is a cautionary tale, since i have heard that they believed the lights to be a bad omen. legend has it that standing on a hill while the lights are shining could cause your head to be sliced off by the lights. it was especially bad luck if you were travelling on the land and the lights followed you night after night.
another time i was out trying to photograph the lights i whistled for them, and they came near and brighter. it was eerie.

Beautiful!
Thanks too for the Inuit legend, always interesting to hear.
nice beck... real nice.
Wowza. Sublime.
thanks.
i like those amazing nights. i could watch the lights ripple for a long time... at least, longer than my body temperature will allow.
