as i was sitting in the swirling waters of the family hot tub (YES!) i was thinking...
cathy trask is one of the main characters in my book right now. she is the female lead, if such a thing exists. steinbeck has painted her as a truly heartless woman, lacking some essence of humanity that makes her just about a psychopath. a truly evil character. and then, right at the end of her part of the story, he tries to give some brief supporting of her character with a small anecdote from her childhood. i can't decide if steinbeck understands people or not. he is able to describe them from such a distance that i'm not sure he really knows them.
i was thinking... would anyone out there be interested in a sort of book club by blog? i was thinking we could read a book and then (duh) discuss it on a blog... you can do it so that there are members and anyone who's a member of the blog can post when something strikes them. and anyone can comment. it would be really fun for me, so let me know if you'd be interested.
i went and bought some boddington's tonight... had to chase it all around the town because everywhere was sold out! so strange! it was a very satisfying experience to finally return to my straight-laced parents' house with my trophy, crack it open, and enjoy it. mmmmm.

hahaha :D so far we will be a small club!!
i think it will be a lot of fun!
awesome ... did you get any good books for xmas that you want to read? lemme know. we can make a list. oooooooh. i'm so excited. i have another fried (on-line ... she lives in halifax) who might want to join. should i ask her?
Yes, You should invite her. I bought several books this holiday including Lullabies for Little Criminals (I don't know much about it) and One Hundred Years of Solitude. It seemed appropriate considering my current situation. what have you got?
excellent. i've always wanted to read 100 yrs of solitude and never had an excuse (i need excuses to read non-school stuff). not much bookage here in the xmas haul ... just the newest bio of katharine hepburn, and it's just about a bazillion pages long! i'm planning on buying this one for myself when i get back to k-town: arthur & george and one that's been on my list for awhile but that i've never got further than 25 pages into is sarah waters' fingersmith. i'm open to suggestions though. i tend to read the same kind of stuff all the time and i need shaking up!
