thte anti-global-warming post

you should appreciate the splendour of winter.

i'm sitting in the school's staff room writing this post because my home connection has abandoned me. i keep hearing noises behind me, and i turn around expecting to see someone, but no one is there. it's creepy as hell.

here is why I am against global warming: it is currently dripping snow outside. it is approaching slushiness. wet snow. it's minus 4. everything looks white and the mountains have been obliterated by massive flakes of snow. that is just wrong for the arctic in april. it should be between -10 and -20. i love spring in the north when everything is frozen and the sun is shining maniacally and you get frostbite and sunburn at the same time. i am against all things slushy, except frozen margaritas, and they don't tend to fall from the sky.

perfect spring weather is what we had on friday for our excursion to latitude 66°30'N. cold, windy, sunshiny and COLD. damn slushy wet chilliness... makes my bones hurt.

picture one: scattered glacial boulders

picture two: the path to the arctic circle. this is about 200m before we flipped the skidoo

picture three: cross-section of the ice of the glacier lake. the layers of bubbles astound me. i made up a lot of possible reasons and ways this could happen, but if you happen to know the truth, please tell me! :)

ps i deliberately left my boot in the shot for scale. really. it was on purpose.
