the puppies are out. i don’t know why i try not to care... it’s inevitable. you’d have to be a pretty hard person not to fall in love with a bunch of puppies. this is the first day they’ve left the doghouse, other than one or two falling out when they were pretty new, only to be stranded on the stoop, howling like little monkeys.
anyway, they were adorable, crawling and falling all over each other; miniature sleuths looking for stray nipples and kibbles. i do credit nalu though – she’s still letting them feed a little bit even though they have teeth. that’s one dedicated mama!
we are in the process of school improvement again, and it always begins with a lecture to non-locals reminding us that we are only temporary (no matter our intentions) and that we are here for the money. it’s really unfair, and it grinds at me every time it happens. we are supposed to be trying to reduce the us-them feelings. just feels like we can’t do anything right – when we get super involved, we’re reminded it isn’t our party, but if we skip a community event, we’re accused of being mercenary. sigh.

Puppies are very cute! Cyoooooot!
Very annoying that you get lectured. Tsk. I lecture them back.
We got a nice postcard from you that promises... more postcards! Hooray!
Today we're going down to MD to look for apts again. Cross fingers for us.
Also - there's a linguist who is writing a book about international curses and insults, and he can't come up with anything good for Canada. If you can think of anything (from mild to really bad), let me know and I will pass it on! Or you can email him directly - his email is: languagehat at THE OLD RELIABLE gmail dot com.
the shock and awe of it! as if he can't come up with a canadian curse! fuck, i swear a blue streak pretty often. you shoulda heard me last night when i bashed my knee on the counter while i was trying to climb up to look out the kitchen window to see if the dog was outside. i think i invented some new words.
i think the real reason whatshisname can't find a good canadian curse is because frickin' americans have expropriated our curses and pretended they invented them. like fucking hell, eh?
here's a good newfie insult: yer stunned, by! stunned as me arse.
(translation: you're stunned, boy - stunned as my arse!)
i like the easy fallback of "fucking qallunaaq" myself.
(hahah... oh so fun and funny)
square question: why is stunned a curse/insult? does it mean "as stupid as if you had a head injury"?
(seriously any newf insults you can give me, I will send him and he will appreciate it.)
yes, stunned means roughly "stupid".
"cracked" is what they say if you're crazy.
umm...what about the hoser line of insult? of course, there are men who think it's a compliment... stupid hosers.
