we're still in a state of emergency. it's really boring now.
the experts are finally in town. now the bridge is totally closed again, even to pedestrians. also, large sections of ground near the river have been roped off... the river has diverted itself underneath the ground and there are concerns that major sinkholes will develop.
here is the lesson i have taken from all this - every dent in the permafrost becomes a weak spot that can lead to the destruction of all of it. now that it has been exposed to air and water, it will continue to erode until next fall (i believe) when winter will freeze the ground solid again. i wonder if that part of the earth will continue to be so fragile after another good winter?
mark my words: global warming is going to be a bumpy ride. it's cheaper for us to pay more and use less fuel than it is for us to pay for all the emergencies that are going to happen because of it. it's fine to choose big ups and downs in your personal life and so say that even keel is boring, but, in the life of the planet mundane is the best thing for everyone involved. extreme weather only looks good on tv. sometimes i wish the planet was conscious and could strike at the things that are hurting it... i wish it could protect itself against us.
ps what is with these commercials loading themselves onto my scrabulous page!!! playing music, talking to me like it's tv... WTF? invasive! bad bad scrabulous.
