omyfeck.
i have this mild tradition of reviewing a year on the night before my birthday. only this time i need to review a whole freaking decade.
first of all, let me say it's been great having lesley come up to visit. we've done some fun stuff .... skiing on the fjord, watching northern lights, eating country foods like char.
this year has been mostly a holding pattern. nothing life-altering happened, but there has been some steady improvement in some areas of my life. i have an 18-month exit strategy to get out of nowhere, i have health, and i have two unpregnant dogs. i did ok in my 30th year. and there is only one hour until that 30th year will roll over.
the decade however... phew! what shifts and changes! i can hardly believe i'm the same person i was back in first year at queen's. i don't really play pool anymore. i am a much more conscientious worker. i finally have a grasp of how structure can be useful and not necessarily restrictive. i have also learned a lot about human nature. i learned how to think for myself. then i forgot. then i learned it again. i gave up judgment where it isn't needed, but i won back the right to judge some things according to my values. i'm finally learning to be a little big gentle with myself about choices, decisions and mistakes i've made. they've all led me here, and mostly i like here. so phbt to my mistakes. i'd make most of them again. :) after all, who would i be if i wasn't me?
Lesley and I are climbing Mt Duval tomorrow before coming home to cook up an enormous meal. Pretty cool, eh? To climb a mountain on your 30th birthday?
I promise (I mean it this time) that I will post some pictures from our small expedition.
